The Schoolhouse<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2010-2014&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Councilor, Ward 4, Township of Lanark Highlands<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Served\nas an active member of the 7-member Lanark Highlands Township Council. Whereas\nthe previous Council had raised taxes 30% during their 4-year term, with no\nobvious benefit to the citizens, this Council reduced the rate of tax growth to\n2% per year. Improved service levels to the citizens and increased employee\nsatisfaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1966-2002&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; IBM\nCanada Ltd.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>36\nyears with IBM, including 30 years as a l<sup>st<\/sup>, 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and 3<sup>rd<\/sup>\nline manager, in a variety of marketing, product management, planning and\ncontrol management, and strategy development positions. Actively involved in\nthe ongoing transformation of IBM Canada for over 20 + years. Some key\ntransformational project responsibilities have included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Empowerment: <\/strong>Led\na cross-functional taskforce that translated the concept of empowerment into its\npractical requirements.<\/li><li><strong>Organizational Capacity\nDevelopment:<\/strong> Strategized development related\nto organizational change and productivity\/service improvements.<\/li><li><strong>&#8220;Think Customer&#8221;:<\/strong>\nImplemented a communications program and recognition initiative to drive cultural\nchange in the administrative and distribution parts of IBM Canada.<\/li><li><strong>Customer Relations\nDepartment:<\/strong> Created a world-class operation\nto deal with and resolve customer complaints.<\/li><li><strong>Project 80&#8217;s Project Office:<\/strong>\nManaged this key element in driving IBM Canada&#8217;s 1979-1984 transformation project;\nas a result, won the <strong>Canada Award for\nExcellence for Productivity <\/strong>in 1984.<\/li><li><strong>IBM Direct Support Facility:<\/strong>\nImplemented a direction-setting prototype that used an IBM-Customer electronic link\nas the basis for delivering more effective and timely technical support.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1990-1991&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;  &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Public\nService&#8217;s Canadian Centre for Management Development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> <\/strong>Participated in the<strong> Canadian Government&#8217;s Business-Government Executive Exchange Program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Co-ordinated\ntwo major studies: (1) <em>Human Resource Practices\nof Leading Large-Scale Canadian Organizations<\/em>; and (2) <em>Effective Executive Development Practices.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Published\npapers and presented findings on the two major studies cited above as well as\non 360 Feedback, Total Quality Management, and the Continuous Learning\nOrganization.
